What to do if you find a sick or injured bird
by Brighton Council
Biosecurity Tasmania are reminding residents not to touch sick or dead birds, amid ongoing monitoring for bird flu (avian influenza).
As of the writing of this article, in July 2026, there are currently no detected cases of bird flu in Tasmania, though H5 bird flu has been confirmed on mainland Australia.
Anyone who comes across a sick or dead bird, or other animal, is asked to call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888, or make a report online through Biosecurity Tasmania’s website.
