Brighton gathers to honour ANZAC spirit
by Brighton Council

The 2026 ANZAC Day Commemorative Service at Remembrance Park was a moving tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our country. The service was led by Brighton Mayor Leigh Gray, with the Ode of Remembrance delivered by Councillor Phil Owen. Also in attendance were Brian Mitchell MP, Councillors Peter Geard and John McMaster, along with members of the local community.
Special thanks go to the 65 Army Cadet Unit – Bridgewater for providing a highly professional catafalque party, Reverend Rod Curtain for leading the Lord’s Prayer, and Mrs Shirley Williams from Speaking Made Easy, who shared the inspiring story of the talented and dedicated Curtain sisters from Elderslie who served as nurses during World War I.
Council also extends its sincere thanks to local school groups who laid wreaths during the service, including students from Brighton Primary School, who read a poem, and Brighton High School students, who carried out the important role of flag raising. Thank you to the emergency service personnel and community members who laid wreaths in remembrance, as well as the Rotary Club of Brighton for providing a post-service sausage sizzle, and Geard 4 Light & Sound for the excellent sound production. Lest We Forget.
