In November, two teams from Bridgewater Fire Station compet­ed in the State Firefighter Cham­pionships at Invermay Park in Launceston. The event attracted a huge turnout of competitors, with 30 career and volunteer teams and around 300 competitors from senior and junior teams.

This was Bridgewater’s second year competing in the state competition, with most of the brigade’s volun­teers participating for the first time.

The Bridgewater volunteers per­formed exceptionally. The Division 1 team placed third overall in the state, with only a few points sepa­rating the top three places. The Di­vision 2 team performed well also. The brigade won medals in most categories, representing the local community with professionalism and dedication to the fire service.

The volunteers would like to thank everyone who purchased raffle tickets and attended the fundraising BBQ leading up to the champion­ships. This support enabled the firefighters to travel to Launceston and pay for their accommodation for the weekend.

The brigade is already training and looking forward to taking part in this year’s competition.
