Big plans for Bridgewater West
by Brighton Council

A major housing boost for Brighton was announced recently, with Mayor Leigh Gray joined by federal and state representatives to reveal plans to unlock around 800 new homes in the Bridgewater West precinct.
Standing alongside Federal Housing Minister Clare O’Neil, Rebecca White MP, Tasmanian Infrastructure Minister Kerry Vincent and Senator Richard Dowling, Mayor Gray said the project represented a major opportunity for the growing municipality.
The proposed development would focus strongly on helping first home buyers enter the property market, while also delivering vital infrastructure to support future growth in the area. Mayor Gray described the project as a “generational opportunity” for Brighton and Bridgewater, made possible by the new Bridgewater Bridge and surrounding road upgrades.
The vision for the precinct includes a mix of housing types, public open space, improved transport connections and future commercial opportunities, all designed for a connected and liveable community. Council says the project could help meet growing housing demand while giving more Tasmanians the chance to own a home close to jobs, schools and services.
The announcement follows ongoing work by Brighton Council and other levels of government to plan future growth across the municipality.
