400 new homes for Brighton
by Brighton Council
Around 400 new homes are set to be built in Brighton following approval of the Boyer Road Precinct Structure Plan by the Tasmanian Planning Commission. Mayor Leigh Gray said the project marked an important step in planning for Brighton’s future growth and housing needs. “This is about providing more housing choice and creating communities that are connected to jobs, infrastructure, and the way people live and work,” Mayor Gray said.
The Boyer Road precinct has been designed to take advantage of its proximity to industry and key transport routes, with future development to be guided by the approved planning framework and supported by essential infrastructure.
Mayor Gray noted the development would build on recent infrastructure projects, including the new Bridgewater Bridge, while supporting broader renewal in surrounding areas such as Old Main Road and the waterfront. Council also reported early interest in its recently announced First Home Builders rates holiday initiative, with several local residents already approved for the program.
The project received support from the Australian Government through the Housing Support Program Stream 1, along with a co-contribution from Brighton Council.
