Brighton Council’s Mayor, Leigh Gray, has taken on a new role at state level, stepping into the Vice President position at the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT).

The vacancy opened up after Paula Wriedt, who previously held the role, left local government. Members of LGAT’s General Management Committee voted Mayor Gray into the position at their most recent meeting.

Mayor Gray has been involved with Brighton Council since 2005 and became Mayor in 2021. He also holds a board position with TasWaste South.

Commenting on the appointment, LGAT President Mick Tucker pointed to Gray’s depth of experience and his track record of advocating for the local government sector.
