Time for snapping the Jerry
by Brighton Council

The annual Bridgewater Jerry Photo Competition is open for 2026, running from 5 May (World Asthma Day) to 5 August, with a community gallery event on 5 September (in Asthma Week). A collaboration between Bridgewater’s Café Connections and Bean 2 Brew and sponsored by Asthma Australia, the competition is about improving perceptions of the community that lends its name to the unique weather phenomenon.
This is a celebration of a memorable weather event and a chance for the community to share its delight and artistic flair. It’s also about keeping people well and healthy during winter – when Jerry is here, asthma is near – so it’s time to get asthma plans updated and medications reviewed as the weather turns cold.
New activities will land over the course of the competition as the event grows to become a Foggy Festival. A lantern parade is a much-loved idea that could find its feet this year.
Hobart artist Hannah Foley’s website now features a Jerry Forecaster, which learns over time based on submissions from the public about when Jerry happens. Each year the quality and quantity of submissions grows. This year, the competition will be expanding to explore more connections in the community to draw out budding photographers.
