Powering up Pontville

by Brighton Council
Mayor Leigh Gray viewing the upgrades

Throughout April, energy upgrades were completed at the Pontville Regional Sports Centre, marking an important step towards a cleaner, more efficient future for this much-loved community facility.

The works included the installation of a 65kW rooftop solar system, a 48kWh battery, and the electrification of the hot water system. As a result, the centre is now far less reliant on gas and grid electricity, helping to lower operating costs, cut carbon emissions, and improve energy resilience.

Together, these upgrades demonstrate how practical, readily available technologies can be used to improve the performance of community buildings, while also showing what’s possible for households and businesses who are looking to cut costs and emissions.

These improvements were made possible thanks to funding from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s Community Energy Upgrade Fund, supporting councils to invest in cleaner, more affordable energy solutions for their communities.
