Third oval to enhance Pontville recreation area

GUNN Oval, the third oval to be developed at the Pontville Recreation Grounds, has been possible through a partnership with Cricket Tasmania, Sport and Recreation Tasmania, AFL Tasmania and Brighton Council.

Gunn Oval has the added advantage of a turf wicket, which allows for pre-season cricket training.

The oval is used by a range of groups including Cricket Tasmania, the Brighton Football Club (senior and junior), Hobart United Soccer Club, athletics groups, as well as the Brighton Agricultural Show.

Brighton Mayor Tony Foster said that having the extra oval allows for preseason training to occur during the times of year when grounds are being changed over for the different sporting seasons.

“We are delighted that the third oval will enhance an already great facility,” Cr Foster said.

The new facilities also include the newly built change-rooms and commercial-rated kiosk, which also services the Brighton Kennel Club and various equestrian groups when they are holding show events.
