SATURDAY February 17 was a great (and happy) day at the Old Beach Cricket Club. It was sponsors’ day, an occasion where club sponsors are invited to watch the game and to be waited on hand and foot by the club’s committee in appreciation of their support. The weather was kind and a full day of cricket was achieved.
The first-grade team played at home against Montagu Bay and recorded a great win chasing down 170 plus. The third-grade team played away and the team too recorded a strong win against New Norfolk batting second. The boys are up and about and both teams have a late in the season sniff of playing finals after a couple of early season loses.
Hand in hand with sponsors’ day is the annual gathering of life members, an opportunity to reflect and talk about the old days, a game of darts and a hand or three of euchre. Probably a legacy of many years past, post-game activity?
Locals are reminded that the club invites Old Beach residents to drop in any time to avail themselves of the amenity and convenience of the club. Social membership is available for $20 per annum.
