Residents urged to vote in their local elections

THE 2009 local government elections will be held next month and Brighton residents are encouraged to vote.

The statewide roll for local government elections closes on September 17 and you can check your status by phoning 13 23 26 or going online at

If you are currently on the State electoral roll you are automatically on the local government roll for the Council in which your enrolled address is located.

This year Brighton will have five councillor vacancies together with vacancies for Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

A notice of election was scheduled to be published in the daily paper as Brighton Community News went to print.

The nomination period closes at 12 noon on Monday, September 28.  Nomination forms, together with ‘Information for Candidates’ booklets are available from Council or the Electoral Office.

Ballot papers will be delivered to electors from October 13-16, with the poll closing at 10 am on Tuesday, October 27.
