PCYC’s open judo comp boast record entries

BRIDGEWATER PCYC Judo Club held its Open competition early last month and we can boast a record number of entries for the event.

Eighty nine competitors from 11 clubs around the state competed in some great Judo. There were more than 100 spectators which caught us ‘on the hop’ a little, but it was pleasing to help raise money for the club’s five State team nominees to travel to Geelong next year for the Australian championships.

Bridgewater PCYC was well represented and achieved a number of placings in the recent Open competition. Congratulations to all who participated.

The competition started with the juniors who did some great work, followed by cadets then into the seniors. It was then decided to hold an open competition which meant any one of our cadets and above age group, as well as any weight, could compete, which always makes for some exciting Judo.

Bridgewater PCYC Judo Club was represented in all age divisions and a total of 18 members competed, some for the first time. The total number of medals won was 18, The club is extremely happy with the result of four gold, nine silver and five bronze.

A huge thank you to coaches, referees, scoreboard operators, pool sheet workers and especially the mums and dads who helped set up mats the night before, run the canteen on the day, cooked and took on jobs they had never done before and St Johns personnel who stayed on beyond their time.  All of these people gave their time freely and if not for them, Bridgewater PCYC Judo Open Club Competition would not have gone as well as it did.
