Old Beach sets sights on four cricket teams

OLD Beach Cricket Club fielded four sides this 2010/2011 season in the Southern Cricket Association.

While the teams fell short in reaching the finals, the boys enjoyed a promising and fiercely competitive playing season. The season was met with a great turn out of players and supporters from around the Brighton municipality, making it a possibility that the club will again field tour teams next season – and aim to make it to the finals.

Special recognition is given to the ‘best players’ in each team including first division player Mark Little who was named ‘club champion’. Mark was commended for his admirable job as club coach in just his first year at the cricket club.

In the second division Michael Cordwell took out the trophy, the fourth division was won by Luke Faulks, and Dave Lang took out the fifth division award.

At the recently held association dinner, team player Luke Faulks was presented with the association bowling award in his grade, with 32 wickets at an average of 11.5 – an outstanding effort.

Club president Ross Wooldridge was revered with the honorary life membership on behalf of the association. He now joins Garry Faulks, last season’s recipient of the same award, as a valued club member.

Old Beach Cricket Club would like to thank all its sponsors this season with a special mention to major sponsors Schweppes, Juicy Isle, Derwent Tavern, 9/11, Robinson’s Meats and 4one4 Real Estate. Appreciation is also extended to the Brighton City Council for its ongoing help throughout the season.

Preseason dates will be published in the Brighton Gazette in the coming month.

The Club looks forward to the up-and-coming season and encourages new players and supporters to join in the cricket excitement!
