OLIVIA (Liv) Burnett recently demonstrated she is one of Tasmania’s most successful competitors in women’s gymnastics.

As one of the representatives of the Hobart Gymnastics Academy in Bridgewater, Liv attended the Australian women’s artistic national championships in Perth and walked away with some fantastic results.President and program manager of the academy Margaret Maui said that Liv performed incredibly well over the two days of competition.

“She competed at level nine and placed third in the individual all around competition, second on beam and sixth on the floor,” Margaret said.

“Liv also received the Carol Sussman Award which is awarded to a national level gymnast for artistry in their floor routine.

“Then she gained a further award recognising her five-year involvement as a competing gymnast in the championships. It was a fabulous personal effort.”

Since her achievements at the national championships, Liv has successfully graded to level 10, the highest level attainable, which makes her the top ranked female gymnast in Tasmania.

Other representatives from the Hobart Gymnastics Academy who competed at the national championships in Perth included Hannah Doody – level seven for women’s gymnastics, Ricky Maui – level eight in men’s gymnastics and Daniel Hansen – level seven in men’s gymnastics.

The Hobart Gymnastics Academy trains more than 240 members aged from two years upward. Classes include men’s and women’s competitive gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, circus skills, trampolining and cheerleading.
