Brighton streetscape plans and report ready for review

THE process of planning to revitalise the town centre of Brighton is well underway and it is now at a stage where draft plans are being put to the community for input and consultation.

Brighton Council commissioned Tasmanian environmental planning and landscape architecture firm Inspiring Place Pty Ltd to look at ways of improving the general appearance, accessibility, safety and functionality of the Brighton town centre along the Midlands Highway between Elderslie Road in the south and Pontville to the north to coincide with the start of the Brighton bypass.

Education leaders

THE first inspection of the new multi-million dollar Bridgewater and Southern Midlands Learning Federation sites was undertaken at an official ceremony marking the start of the gymnasium for the complex, this month.

Gathered at the beginning of construction of the new gymnasium for the Bridgewater and Southern Midlands Learning Federation are Brighton mayor Tony Foster, Learning Federation manager Andy Bennett, Premier David Bartlett and Senator Carol Brown representing the Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard with grades seven and eight Bridgewater High students who will be among the first to use the gym as well as students from Gagebrook and East Derwent primary schools. (In the background is the fenced-off area between Bridgewater High and Eddington Street where the new gymnasium and sport science block will be built.)

At the same event, Council re-signed its partnership with the Tasmanian Government and it was also presented with $1 million worth of government funding for a major street and public space landscaping project for Brighton (see story this page) and Bridgewater. Continue reading “Education leaders”
