Mayor Tony Foster said Mr Sanderson consistently demonstrated exceptionally high standards in managing all aspects of the Council’s business, and was a visionary leader.

“As well as his efforts on behalf of the Brighton Council and our community, he is active in broader local government administration and is highly respected by his peers throughout Tasmania and interstate,” Cr Foster said.

“Ron Sanderson has played an integral role in the progress of the Brighton Municipality for the past two decades, and in ensuring that we have the most cost effective and efficient Council in the State.

“He continues to serve the Council and community with distinction and I am delighted that we have been able to confirm his appointment for a further five years.”

Formerly a petroleum engineer in Canada and Western Australia, Mr Sanderson came to Tasmania as engineer with the Circular Head Council in 1987. He was appointed Managing Engineer at the Brighton Council in 1993.

Mr Sanderson said he looked forward to the next five years and working with councillors, staff and the community to continue to advance Brighton and enhance services, facilities and development to benefit all ratepayers, local businesses and families.
