Work starts on Gage Road roundabout

THE Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (DIER) is constructing a new roundabout at the Gage Road junction with a new connector road to Lamprill Circle junction. The Lamprill Circle junction will be modified to prevent right turn movements onto the East Derwent Highway. This is a $1.989 million project, funded by the Road Safety Levy with Brighton Council contributing $200,000 to the project.┬áThe construction is a best practice infrastructure initiative, under the Tasmanian Road Safety Strategy 2007 – 2016. Further information on these projects can be found at www.transport.tas.gov.au/safety

Work is expected to be completed by the end of May this year.

The project will be designed to ensure the least possible disruption to road users. Lane closures will only occur between the hours of 9am to 5pm on work days to minimise disruption. Variable message boards will be USED to prepare road users of expected delays.

Delays to the travelling public can be expected in the vicinity of the construction works for the duration of the project including lane closures. There will be brief closures expected for both lanes when applying sprayed bitumen to minimise damage to vehicles. These are unavoidable and allow us to complete the necessary works required.

The roadworks will be performed under an approved traffic management plan by the contractor Spectran Pty Ltd.
