RESIDENTS and businesses in our Brighton Municipality are really showing their innovative approaches to staying home and saving lives. BRIGHTON’s White Moe (or Moes) Café and Restaurant is really showing how innovation, dedication and a lot of love can make a tough situation better.
Moes’ co-owner Scott Cranfield said the café was fortunate it was already set up for takeaway as well as a restaurant prior to restrictions being set in place because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“When the COVID-19 virus hit we really were in a fortunate situation in that we could literally hit the ground running.
“We already had a good takeaway menu and we managed to convert our restaurant offerings into meals that people could come and pick up, or a special menu which we deliver straight to their door,” Scott said.
“In fact the day Moes had to stop serving in its restaurant, as other restaurants had to close down, it was a Monday. The next Wednesday we had planned our first Indian-themed evening which we managed to do as a takeaway night, which, has due to the support, now continues each Wednesday evening.
Now open seven-days-a-week for takeaway or delivery, Scott said the business was going well.
“The support we are getting from our local community and beyond has and remains absolutely fantastic.
“We’ve been delivering to Brighton, Bagdad, Kempton, Claremont, Granton, Old Beach, New Norfolk and surrounds, and it just keeps going.
“We urge people to try to book the day prior to their delivery because it just makes it easier for us to deliver on time, particularly for families with children who are used to their set meal times.”
Scott has two drivers undertaking all deliveries along with his current staffing complement who help in prepping food, cooking and packing it for takeaway.
“Both my partner Julia Fassina and I are so thrilled that we have been able to maintain the business, not only because of the economic situation but mostly because we have been able to keep our people employment who continue to be amazing support to us.
“This is why we are so grateful to our community for supporting what we have done. Yes, we were fortunate that we could set up our takeaway service from the first day, but we are also thankful for the ongoing support the community has shown.
“Much of that support is because our communities really understand how important it is to support their local businesses.
“We know that they’re enjoying our food, but at the same time, we know they are coming to support local businesses like ours to keep us running and to keep locals employed. Many who are supporting us are going through tough times themselves so that support is very much welcomed”

Just finished the best takeaway we’ve had delivered to our door. The fact we are in Bagdad and it’s the only one we’ve had should not detract from this rave review.
Gnocchi carbonara, chicken schnitzel with salad and chips & garlic bread. All delivered at the time arranged, all hot and all delicious. Such a bleak night and the delivery ‘boy’ still had a smile. We will do this again! Thanks so much. Let the isolation food coma begin.
My first time eating delicious White Moe food. I was not disappointed and will be ordering on a weekly basis.
Scott said Moes’ philosophy was to keep meals affordable, fresh and tasty.
“We know that people are doing it tough so we are trying to ensure our meals are within the price range of families.
Our home-delivered meals are intended to provide patrons who want to buy meals in bulk at a cheaper option which is a great option for the elderly who are isolated and not mobile. We offer special deals for home deliveries but everything that is on our menu is available for home delivery. I just urge everyone to get in early as we are obviously busy and we want to make sure we can get to everyone.
Meals are ordered by a Tuesday or Thursday and delivered the following Friday and Monday.
“They are ideal for freezing or if you just want to feed the family for the week but with no hassles.”
Meals are made from fresh and nutritious produce and are great value starting at $10 per meal. Children’s sized meals are $7 per meal. No delivery fee applies.
The evening takeaway menu has plenty to choose from. Some of the meals on offer include chicken or beef parmigiana, with chips and salad or veggies $20, all pastas $17.90, scotch fillet steak with chips and salad and choice of gravy, pepper, mushroom or traditional $27, and lasagne, chips and salad for $18.

There is a range of pizzas on offer as well as a great children’s menu.
The restaurant is open from 5-8pm during the evening (Mon – Sat) and during the day from 7am till 3pm for great coffee and other takeaway goodies.
