Wanted: voices for gender balance

THE renowned Bagdad Singers  is looking for more female singers to balance its strong male singing component.

The group  was formed more than 16 years ago when the musical director, Chris Fehlberg, was living in Bagdad. While most of the original members lived in the district, other long-standing participants were drawn from the surrounding areas.

• The Bagdad Singers who are providing plenty of pleasure to all age groups.
• The Bagdad Singers who are providing plenty of pleasure to all age groups.

Some of our keenest singers live in Brighton, Pontville and Tea Tree regions. Last year the group was awarded an Australia Day certificate in the Community Action Category for ‘bringing pleasure to so many over a long period of time’.

Chris Fehlberg said the music used comes from different genres.

“We do concentrate on those songs that older people enjoy as we do a lot of entertaining in aged care homes and multi-cultural groups. We work with the Brighton CWA and Day Care centre with our next program at Pontville for the Cancer Day fundraiser.

“One doesn’t have to be a proficient singer; we believe if you can talk you can sing,” Christ said.

If you live in the Brighton area we’d love to hear from you. It really is a lot of fun. You can contact Chris on 6275 0077 to discuss any queries or joining the group.
