Students get planting for national tree day

STUDENTS from East Derwent Primary School and Brighton Primary School recently helped Brighton Council plant trees as part of national tree day 2009.

Council officers and school staff helped the students plant 125 native trees at Weily Park and Seymour St Park.  Trees were donated by Brighton Council and the Riverside community nursery.

The theme for national tree day in 2009 is ‘Get Growing’.  This theme has multiple meanings – growth of native trees, growth of communities and community spirit as well as personal growth.

This initiative brought together schools, the local community and council and on the day, this year’s theme was well reflected in everyone involved.
