New website boosts options online

BRIGHTON Council has launched a vibrant new council website making it easier and more user-friendly for residents to seek out council services within the municipality as well as other important information particularly relating to building and planning approvals impacting on their community.

The website, designed by a boutique website company Puddlehub based on Tasmania’s east coast, is also dynamic which means that rates and dog registrations can now be paid online.

The site features a full range of information about the municipality from planning and development applications, building and plumbing information, the status of current works in the municipality, what residents are able to do regarding noise control, advice on pet responsibility as an owner,  information on waste disposal and the use of the Waste Transfer Station, council meetings, agendas and minutes, through to general information on council policies and employment opportunities.

There is also a section about the full range of the municipality’s parks and facilities, art and culture amenities, a listing of community groups including a contact directory, information on land and weed management, how to access community grants, advice on holding a community event, a local business directory which is regularly being updated, emergency management and fire hazard control. The site contains a new residents’ kit that can be downloaded which will assist those new to the area understand what is available and with whom to make contact.

Brighton Council’s Chief Operating Officer, James Dryburgh said the new website was much easier to navigate and much more user-friendly than previous sites.

“Importantly it provides a wealth of information for residents to access easily and allows them to pay their rates and dog registrations securely online.

“More and more people in our community are time poor and advances in technology make it so much simpler to get information or to do business online.

“Council’s former websites, while informative, did not provide all of the information our community needs and also did not allow for online payments. We had received feedback that this was important t our community particularly as people had little time to get to council chambers during business hours to make their payments or to seek out information.

“Our brief was to make our website as user-friendly as possible. While we have launched the site, there is still work to do to keep on improving the information already there and to continually update what is available within the whole municipality.”

Mr Dryburgh said Council welcomed feedback so that it could continually improve a valuable resource that was now available to all residents.

“While we are naturally pleased that we now have a more user-friendly online resource for all residents, we can always continue to improve. We have contact details on-site where residents can add their voice to what we are doing. We welcome that feedback,” Mr Dryburgh said.
