BRIDGEWATER’S Anne Smith is continuing to succeed in figure skating competitions throughout the country.
She recently competed in the Crystal Challenge Trophy 2016, National Ranking figure skating competition, which was held in Melbourne and which hosted all levels of figure skating from throughout Australia.
Anne competed in three events: solo dance, free dance and single ladies. She placed first in Solo dance, first in free dance, and third in ISA Ladies in the elementary division with a score of 27, which was a personal best. Anne said the best part of a great experience was landing a double Salchow jump which she previously had not been able to do.
The Salchow jump is a figure skating jump with a takeoff from a back inside edge of one foot. The rotation in the air is made in the direction of the curve of the take-off edge. The landing is made on the back outside edge of the foot opposite the one used for take-off.
“I feel proud to have represented my state of Tasmania in this competition and proud of my efforts,” she said.
“My near future aim is to improve my personal best score and to do well at the Australia National Figure Skating championships 2016 which will be held in Melbourne in November.
Anne is hoping to compete in the basic novice A singles division.
“With hard work and determination I hope to represent Tasmania and Australia on International championships in near future.”
We wish her well.
