Ponting and Butterworth put in a pre-season at Pontville Park

THE PONTVILLE Park Recreation complex hosted one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era when former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting joined his fellow Tasmanian Tigers for pre-season training in October.

With their home ground Blundstone Arena being re-surfaced during the pre-season, the Tigers trained at alternative venues in the lead up to the 2012-13 season, including Ferguson Park.

Opening of bypass an historic day for Tasmania

THE official opening of the Brighton Bypass is truly an historic day for the Brighton municipality and for Tasmania.

It’s been a long time coming, indeed it was being discussed when I first became a councillor in the 1980s. But now after many years of discussion, contemplation, consideration, planning and finally construction, the Brighton Bypass is due to be open as Brighton Community News goes to press and we can continue to restore Brighton and Pontville to the towns they once were. Olympian Tristan gives tips and support for our young runners

TASMANIAN Olympic athlete Tristan Thomas is encouraging young people in the Brighton municipality to participate in athletics and other healthy sporting and recreational activities.

The London Olympian spent this morning with the East Derwent Little Athletics Club at Weily Park, Bridgewater, providing coaching tips and support for the next generation of young athletes.
