THE Brighton Colts are the 2009 grand final winners.
The Colts defeated the favoured New Norfolk team convincingly by 48 points.
Going into the match everyone knew it was going to be a great game. New Norfolk had beaten the young Brighton side in both encounters during the home and away season quite comfortably so it was a huge surprise when the Brighton boys beat New Norfolk in the qualifying final, which was New Norfolk’s first defeat for the season.
Brighton was too good for Cygnet in the second semi final advancing straight to the grand final.
The team had an exciting week leading up to the biggest day of the year, the boys had a great week together, watching footy, playing golf , training hard and bonding with a players’ tea.
Parents enjoyed the week also getting together to make a fantastic banner.
The boys have put in a tremendous amount of work all season, which has paid off. Right from the first bounce, the team work, guts and determination was thrilling to watch with the whole team giving their all for team mates and the Brighton Football Club.
Credit goes to ‘Brucey ‘ (Michael Bruce) who is the team coach and who kept the hard work up to them encouraging them all season to believe in themselves and give their best all year. With the success of the Grand Final win and the amount of talent coming through, the future is looking great for the Brighton Football Club.
The final scores were Brighton 13 .9 (87) d New Norfolk 6 .3 (39).
