THE Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia rally setup team has been in and around Pontville now for a little more than two months liaising with local businesses and suppliers who will be essential to the successful conduct of our rally.
We have tried out most of the local cuisine and have been most impressed. The locals who walk their dogs around the open areas of the complex have become acquaintances with one couple being reasonably regular attendees at the daily ritual of happy hour. The laundromat, bakery, post office, butcher shop and White Moe’s have become a part of our lives and the crew at Brighton Tyre and Auto Centre have been kept busy ordering and fitting tyres for our friends arriving with problems.
Although we have put in some long hours it has not all been work as we have taken the opportunity to visit a lot of the local members at their weekend outings.
We have also started to receive visits from friends who have arrived from the big island for the rally which will be held between March 13-19. The number of vehicles coming as at the close of business on Friday January 13 is just short of 500 so the invasion numbers are growing. With Christmas out of the way each day sailing of the spirit of Tasmania will be full of Motorhomes.
On Sunday March 19 we will be having an open day so how about coming along and joining us for the day, look at all the Motorhomes, talk to the people about the lifestyle and try out the food at the stalls?
There are still sites available for all those crafty people. Contact Col at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information on sites.
Entry will be through the main gate on Brighton Road from 9am and exit by 3.30pm. All we ask is for a gold coin donation which will go to one of the local services teams.
I cannot let the opportunity go by without expressing our thanks to Mayor Tony Foster and his team at Brighton Council for their efforts in assisting us to make the event a win-win situation for our members and the local businesses and community.
You have a council to of which you can all be very proud.
