THE Brighton Football Club Women’s team who participated in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition for the first time, won this year’s grand final after going through the season undefeated.
The team, in its inaugural year was coached by Dylan Ford and captained by Zoie Crawford had a convincing win over Lindisfarne with final scores, Brighton: 12.10.82 d Lindisfarne 3.1.19.
Half the girls in the team had never played football before and it was testament to their commitment that they went through the season undefeated and then win the Grand Final.
Georgia Pennicott was judged best on ground.
Seven girls represented the SFLW who beat their northern counterparts with Zoie Crawford judged best on ground.
Tiarna Ford won the association’s best and fairest award and Emma Groves was the leading gaol kicker for the SFLW competition.
The club is looking forward to next season and will also be trying to encourage involvement by junior and youth girls sides.
