Brighton’s women enjoy bowling success

THE Brighton bowls season was officially opened late last month, with Tasmania’s ‘B’ singles champion, Jenny Geappen fulfilling the tradition of rolling the first kitty.

Jenny is a relatively new bowler who recently transferred to the Brighton Club and has shown remarkable potential and improvement. Her success was the highest individual honour in a season that saw the Club’s ladies take out the Tasmanian B triples championship and the Tasmanian B fours championship.

Club president Ross Howard, who congratulated the ladies on their successes and predicted a further bright season for the Club in 2014/2015, officiated at the opening.

He also congratulated greenkeeper and member Doug Holloway, who with his team of helpers already has the green in superb condition.

The Club is keen to welcome new bowlers and the introduction used by several, barefoot bowls, will begin on Wednesday, October 22 at 5.30pm. Newcomers are welcome at a cost of $5 and the only requirement is that flat-soled shoes must be worn, or a preparedness to bowl in bare feet. Bowls are provided by the Club.
