Brighton Football Club welcomes new players, new coach and new board

THE Brighton Football Club has elected a new board at its recent annual general meeting –  the final piece in the rebuilding of the club.

In the past few months, we have seen new coach Byron Howard return as senior coach. Byron and his coaching panel, including son Jacob, have been busy recruiting new and former players back to the club.

The board been regenerated, which is fantastic for the club: Darren Clark, president, Chris Goodluck and Braden Howlett vice presidents, Phil Dodge treasurer and Kelly Penman secretary.

The board has already engaged TD Solutions to assist with strategic planning for the Club going forward and is keen to implement some positive changes.

The board is set to make the club more strategic around fundraising, processes and governance. This is a community that is growing and we need a club that is keeping pace with community expectations.

Last year the club ran on the smell of an oily rag, with a small number of volunteers doing a fantastic job, however it’s not sustainable in the long run. People wear out and we need more volunteers doing less work. Sharing the love for footy!

I want the club to be successful on the ground but to do that we must be better organised off the ground. Governance and structure bring quality people with good values and that makes a sustainable club.

We have a great council in Brighton Council which supports the club. The community will have a new school and new sporting facility in the future but we must make sure our clubs are welcoming new people as volunteers and players to keep the clubs at a higher level of competitiveness.

We want the Brighton Robins to be on everyone’s mind, to build a place where you want to be involved and your family enjoys being part of the action.

Women’s sport is growing and we also need to do more to make it easier for women to play sport on weekends.

I am looking forward to working with all community stakeholders which includes other sporting bodies, junior clubs and community groups.

So if you are interested in helping out for the 2020 season please come down and introduce yourself to the board members. You will leave with a job to do. That I promise.

DARREN CLARK
President
The Brighton Football Club is thrilled to announce Darren Clark as our President for 2020.
Darren has been involved in many community groups in regional Tasmania.
Growing up in Triabunna & now living in Bagdad with his wife Danielle, he understands the importance of sporting groups in communities.
Darren has held a level two qualification in coaching football, having played & coached at Glenorchy, Triabunna and Wagga.
In the past Darren has been the CEO of PCYC TAS, small business owner, Board member of Blackmans Bay Child Care, State President of AMWU & member of Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Darren is currently the Chief of Staff for Brian Mitchell MP, & looking forward to the new challenges as President of the Brighton Football Club

 

CHRIS GOODLUCK
Vice President
Life Member Chris Goodluck is an ever reliable part of BFC. His involvement in the club started in 1986 when he played for Mangalore, whilst being Vice President off & on. Chris became club president in 2009/2010 before returning to Vice President from 2011 and will continue through season 2020. You can find Chris behind the bar on game days and after training, whilst being our club licensee. He has also been SFL Delegate & Team Manager for the past 10 years whilst also being our very own team manager at BFC. There is no doubt that BFC holds a special place in Chris’s heart. The club is beyond lucky to have him as a volunteer and we look forward to what more he has to bring in 2020

 

BRADEN HOWLETT
Vice President
Braden, whose heart has beated true for the red & the blue since he started in Under 8s, is a loyal member of BFC. A past Colts Best & Fairest Winner & Premiership Player. He has volunteered for many years behind the bar, entering match results and behind the scenes work. Braden not only returns to the field after a year off but also takes up the role of Vice President hoping to take the club into the future with his youthful ideas.

 

PHIL DODGE
Treasurer
Phil has been the heart and soul of BFC for the last 4 years. Phil is the go to man for everything and does everything possible to make sure BFC has a bright & sustainable future.

The long list of jobs that he does throughout not just the season but also the off season is second to none. He volunteers countless hours whilst also owning and managing a business. Phil is loved and appreciated around the club and we look forward to seeing what more he brings in season 2020

 

KELLY PENMAN
Secretary
Kelly has been a supporter of BFC since 2013. She was appointed Secretary & Function/Events Coordinater for season 2019 and now will continue that role into 2020. Kelly deals with day to day correspondents, while providing admin support for executive committee. As her role of Functions/Events Coordinator, she organises a wide variety of functions and is currently making a new website for the club. Kelly is a significant part of the BFC Committee and we look forward to many more of her great ideas in Season 2020

Also, the BFC would like to sincerely thank Peter Spotswood for stepping up as President for the past 4yrs, such volunteers are hard to come by, with Peter sticking through the tough past few years to help us get through to what we are today and plan to be in the future
