Brighton buzzes with brighter future ahead

By TONY FOSTER

Mayor of Brighton

AS we head towards the Christmas season and the summer holidays, it is so exciting to see how our community is really humming.

I have noticed, particularly in recent months, how the major projects that are progressing within the community are having such a positive effect on daily business and community life.

For example, the other day I went into our local bakery and it was absolutely fantastic to see how busy everyone was, serving customers who were either buying their bakery products or having lunch.

It is fair to say that a few years ago, this may not have been occurring as obviously nor as regularly.  But with the growth in the community and the number of major projects that are on the go, there is certainly a ‘buzz’ in the air that hasn’t been there before.  Much of the activity has been generated by those projects with more people either working in or visiting our community than ever before.

As Mayor, I am delighted that I am experiencing this first hand. Our local business are enjoying some extremely brisk trade and there is a great feeling of optimism which is providing a major boost for our local economy.

Work on the bypass is beginning and with that has brought a great deal of added work for our local businesses, particularly those in the service industry and in what they provide daily for contractors.  Those feeling the benefits particularly are businesses in food, petrol, mechanical equipment and other related services.

At the same time, the Industrial Estate is continuing to grow and bring business into the area.  In the past few weeks we have seen the opening of new facilities for freight refrigeration (see story this edition of Brighton Community News) ensuring other businesses are able to transport their products elsewhere in the state or interstate.

At the same time we have just turned the sod for the first building of the Bridgewater High School and also opened new classrooms at Brighton Primary.

You are also reading in this edition about the plans for the Brighton streetscape which mirror the work we are doing to improve the local area structure plan for Bridgewater which was outlined in last months BCN.

These are just some of the developments that are providing such a fantastic working and living environment for our community. There is certainly much to be proud of at Brighton.

In the meantime, I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday period and enjoy the festive season with your family and friends.

I look forward to seeing you in the New Year as we collectively work towards building on these achievements to provide even brighter futures for everyone.
