BRIGHTON Bowls Club members ended the 2009/10 bowls season with a presentation dinner at the clubrooms to celebrate one of their most successful seasons ever.
The ladies divisions 2 and 4 won the southern finals and then travelled north to take on the northern finalists and defeated them convincingly to become state champions when division 2 ladies defeated Cressy 51-43 and Port Sorell 62-48. Division 4 ladies defeated Deloraine 70-43 and Ulverstone 82-48.
The men’s divisions 2 and 3 reserves teams also made the finals in the southern competition but after a strong performance just failed to reach the grand final in their respective grades.
The club’s open singles champion was Kevin Booth and the ladies open singles title was won his granddaughter Amity Booth.
All team members bowled extremely well. Team captains were presented with trophies for the southern premierships at a special function held at the Rosny Park bowls club and state premiership trophies were presented at the atate ‘Awards and Presentation’ evening at Wrest Point Casino.
Once regarded as a game for old people, today lawn bowls is enjoyed by people of all ages, from teenagers to seniors, with juniors winning representative selection in their early teens.
Brighton Bowls Club is a family club and has the ability to cater for functions of up to 100 people. The Ladies Committee consists of experienced personnel who are able to cater for most occasions.
Through the winter months random draw competitions are held each Wednesday and Saturday commencing at midday. This is an ideal opportunity for first time bowler to learn the game, as coaching and bowls are supplied.
The club is now looking forward to another successful season in 2010/11 and extends a warm welcome to all new members and new bowlers.
