AUSTRALIA’S largest mover of freight, Toll Group, is on track with the construction of its multi-million dollar custom-designed warehouse and facilities in the Brighton Transport Hub.
The development is still on track for completion mid June this year with the facility being fully operational from July 1.
The warehouse development sees Toll established as the anchor tenant at TasRail’s new intermodal freight terminal at Brighton.
Brighton Mayor Tony Foster said the new warehouse in Brighton’s Transport Hub was a significant show of confidence in the facility.
“We are delighted to welcome Toll to Brighton and the transport hub. The investment is significant and is bringing important economic activity and employment to our region,” Cr Foster said.
“Toll is Australia’s largest freight shipper and the major shipper of goods between Tasmania and the mainland, moving the equivalent of 150,000 20ft containers and approximately 10,000 cars across Bass Strait each year.
“It is a major employer in Tasmania and to have the company and its operations as the key tenant at the Brighton Transport Hub represents a great step forward,” Cr Foster said.
“We look forward to the start of its operations in the Hub mid year.”
The Brighton Transport Hub will bring new efficiency to Tasmania’s freight services and will significantly enhance the movement of goods between the north and south of the State.
Toll has acknowledged the contribution of both Brighton City Council and Vos Construction in ensuring that the project is meeting its schedule for completion.
